The purpose of hunting regulations is to manage Georgia’s game birds and game animals according to principles of sound wildlife management and to meet public objectives for use of these renewable natural resources.
- Proposed Regulations: These proposed changes affect rules pertaining to permit requirements for hunting deer with dogs; pursuit of bears with dogs on wildlife management areas, other state lands, and federal wildlife areas; wildlife management area trout streams; public fishing areas; and the Georgia outdoor recreation pass. Proposed changes to the existing rules reflect the need to achieve consistency with statutory changes associated with HB 208 (License Fee Bill). The comment period for these proposed regulations closed on May 31, 2017.
- Proposed Hunting Regulations 2017-2018 and 2018-2019: Three Public Hearings were scheduled re: these proposed regulations. The comment period for these proposed regulations closed on April 21, 2017.

Last spring, the Wildlife Resources Division conducted public scoping efforts to determine if Georgians would support adjusting the walleye creel and possession limit at Lake Blue Ridge from fifteen (15) to the statewide limit of eight (8).
Based on the results of the public scoping effort and prior research, the Wildlife Resources Division has proposed this regulation change to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Board and will open a comment period on July 1, 2016 to run thru July 31, 2016.
During the comment period (July 1-31, 2016), interested individuals and parties can comment by attending the scheduled public hearing (see info below) or by submitting verbal or written comment as specified below:

The WRD will review and consider all comments received during the comment period and make a final recommendation to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Board at its August 2016 meeting.
If approved, WRD expects the proposed change to become effective in 2016.
